Social Studies Textbooks

This is the new version of the Alaska Teacher Placement (ATP) forum for teachers, education majors, and school administrators to discuss working and living in the state of Alaska. Those considering an Alaskan job, or considering a new Alaskan education job ask questions, and those with information and/or opinions provide answers. Although many users are teacher or principal candidates from the Lower 48, a large number of current and former school district HR and school administrators subscribe.

Social Studies Textbooks

To Whom It May Concern,

I have completed my Alaska Teacher Placement application and I am preparing for a potential interview for a Social Studies teaching position next year. My question is: What Social Studies textbooks do the Alaska secondary schools use?

Thank you very much for your time.

Unlike some states, Alaska does not have a statewide textbook adoption process. This means that each school district has its own curriculum, and buys the textbook series of its choice. This means that there is no way to know what texts would be used by any district without visiting their website, or asking ahead of time. Some others here may mention what they are currently using, but unless you are in that district, it is likely to vary. ;-)
