High Needs School Designation

This is the new version of the Alaska Teacher Placement (ATP) forum for teachers, education majors, and school administrators to discuss working and living in the state of Alaska. Those considering an Alaskan job, or considering a new Alaskan education job ask questions, and those with information and/or opinions provide answers. Although many users are teacher or principal candidates from the Lower 48, a large number of current and former school district HR and school administrators subscribe.

High Needs School Designation

Can anyone tell me what exactly the "high needs school" designation means in the job bank? I am talking about the red words in parentheses that recently began popping up in the job postings.

I think this is intended to mean that the school qualifies under some of the programs for teacher student loan forgiveness. I would not trust that information provided in the form for each listing, as school staff posting the jobs rarely know the actual status - which changes each school year. In red type or not, it's likely to be erroneously entered with the listing. Instead, search the ATP forum under student loan forgiveness for the links to all the schools in Alaska by district and year which qualify.

The good news is that most of rural Alaska DOES qualify for most years. ;-)
