Kuspuk School District

This is the new version of the Alaska Teacher Placement (ATP) forum for teachers, education majors, and school administrators to discuss working and living in the state of Alaska. Those considering an Alaskan job, or considering a new Alaskan education job ask questions, and those with information and/or opinions provide answers. Although many users are teacher or principal candidates from the Lower 48, a large number of current and former school district HR and school administrators subscribe.

Kuspuk School District

Postby Adrianna » Mon Dec 07, 2015 4:51 am

Hi their, I am researching school districts. I am from the Great State of Alaska Born and raised. I am very interested in this school district. I have spent some time in the area, but want to hear what it is like as a teacher in the district. What is the teaching housing like in the different places? Are pets allowed in the housing and what is the rent like for teachers in the housing? Also what about teaching support and supplies? Also is it possible to get an advance on salary with this district once hired as moving out is expensive. We have to buy everything by mail and have it shipped in. Is their a store in all the communities in the district or do some not have stores. What about community support for the schools and the teachers? Its a lot of questions and thanks in advance for answering!!..

What site are you looking at? I worked in a neighboring district and I was always impressed with my dealings with Kuspuk school district. However every village is different. Search for their NA online and it will give you current housing situation (at least it should).

I have some friends that are teaching there as well. I will drop an email to them to get some feedback on their villages.

I am open to any of the different schools. I would love to get information from different teachers who have worked at the different schools. I am going to school to get my Elementary school degree anyway it would be great to get insight from Teachers who work at the different schools. I know lots of questions I listed. I just figure its better to ask hopefully from Teachers who work or have worked in the district. Thanks so much for replying :).

Many districts will put you in touch with teachers currently working for them as part of the hiring process. Ask at the conclusion of your interview about this if you are strongly considering a site or district.

Thanks John, Its going to be a couple of years before I am ready to start the interview process. I just figure if I start researching the districts now, I will be well prepared. This District among a few others has caught my eye for lots of reasons and thanks :).
