Demand for Social Studies Teachers in Alaska.

This is the new version of the Alaska Teacher Placement (ATP) forum for teachers, education majors, and school administrators to discuss working and living in the state of Alaska. Those considering an Alaskan job, or considering a new Alaskan education job ask questions, and those with information and/or opinions provide answers. Although many users are teacher or principal candidates from the Lower 48, a large number of current and former school district HR and school administrators subscribe.

Demand for Social Studies Teachers in Alaska.

Which endorsements are more, and less, in demand for teaching in Alaska?

I am pursuing a teacher certification to teach secondary education- Social Studies/Police Science/Government. I don't see many openings for Middle/High School Social Studies teachers in Alaska. Are SS teachers rarely required in comparison to other subjects?

I don't think social studies teachers are in demand anywhere which is why I changed my major a loooong time ago. Get your degree in what it is in but take as many praxis tests as you can. Do English language arts. Math. Science. You will get a job by making yourself HQ in other content areas.
