acronym guide for the job postings

This is the new version of the Alaska Teacher Placement (ATP) forum for teachers, education majors, and school administrators to discuss working and living in the state of Alaska. Those considering an Alaskan job, or considering a new Alaskan education job ask questions, and those with information and/or opinions provide answers. Although many users are teacher or principal candidates from the Lower 48, a large number of current and former school district HR and school administrators subscribe.

I keep seeing some acronyms I'm not familiar with... one is DLE posted after some positions. Can anyone tell me what those letters stand for in relationship to the job.

Hi,

It is not a very common acronym in my experience, but a few districts seem to use it. I'd guess it means "Dual Language Education", so dual immersion type approach for students who are not native speakers of English. I see some of those for Spanish / English, and some for Yup'ik / English.

Hope this helps,

John

I thought that might be a possibility know that there a few immersion pre-schools/kindergartens. I know that some areas are actively trying to teach their young the language so it will not be lost since that is becoming more possible as time goes by and less native tongue is spoken.
