Tolerance

This is the new version of the Alaska Teacher Placement (ATP) forum for teachers, education majors, and school administrators to discuss working and living in the state of Alaska. Those considering an Alaskan job, or considering a new Alaskan education job ask questions, and those with information and/or opinions provide answers. Although many users are teacher or principal candidates from the Lower 48, a large number of current and former school district HR and school administrators subscribe.

Tolerance

Good Morning,

Any advice on tolerance in Alaska? Particularly with the LGBTQ community. There are areas in Oregon that are very "opinionated" and to be honest, dangerous towards this set of individuals and we are a blue state. Alaska is big and so we are narrowing down our application venues so transparency is key with this one. I'm sure the larger cities are fine and I hear the inside passage or interior passage is okay....any other places that would be welcoming?

My personal experience in the bush, is that most Alaskans have a live and let live mentality.
