Job Fair Question

This is the new version of the Alaska Teacher Placement (ATP) forum for teachers, education majors, and school administrators to discuss working and living in the state of Alaska. Those considering an Alaskan job, or considering a new Alaskan education job ask questions, and those with information and/or opinions provide answers. Although many users are teacher or principal candidates from the Lower 48, a large number of current and former school district HR and school administrators subscribe.

Job Fair Question

Postby taylorcr » Fri Nov 20, 2015 7:21 am

Greetings from Nebraska!
I am planning to attend the Anchorage job fair and was wondering if it is necessary/advisable to attend both days (I'm looking for 7-12 Science, if it matters). I know every district is different, but at other job fairs I've attended over the years the interviews were conducted the same day -- often within the hour. I was planning on arriving late Thursday night and then flying back home Friday evening. Thanks for your help. This website has been a wonderful source of information and inspiration.

We get this question every year, and my personal advice is still the same: I'd plan on both days of the Anchorage Job Fair. I realize it's tempting to think you can meet all the districts, interview, and then entertain offers all on the first day. In my experience, many, many candidates have actually met their eventual employer on the second day. This can happen for a wide range of reasons. I would come Thursday, and plan on leaving Saturday evening if I were you. ;-)

Either way, welcome to the ATP Forum!

Hope this helps, and feel free to post follow up questions.
