I got an offer to work at Selawik!

I am super excited about the offer and am considering it seriously, but I have found very little online information about the village other than what is posted on the district web site, which seems minimal. Can anyone give me an idea of what village life might be like, and what essentials I will need to bring? Are there web links I might have missed? Also - what can anyone tell me about shipping a handgun? Is that a question for ATF or Alaska Air? Thanks!

I'll be moving to Kotzebue soon, and while I have not heard much about life in the village, I can offer some help on the shipping question. The USPS does not allow handguns to be shipped; only rifles. The best way to get a pistol there is to check it with your luggage when you fly. There are specific rules regarding the type of case it must be in and the type of lock used. More info can be found at the TSA page on traveling with firearms (http://www.tsa.gov/traveler-information ... ammunition).

Congratulations and the best of luck to you in your new position!

Thanks Corey. I feel like a kid going to camp for the first time with so much to learn before I begin. I appreciate your response.
