1st time Teacher- BA plus 3 endorsements - pay?

This is the new version of the Alaska Teacher Placement (ATP) forum for teachers, education majors, and school administrators to discuss working and living in the state of Alaska. Those considering an Alaskan job, or considering a new Alaskan education job ask questions, and those with information and/or opinions provide answers. Although many users are teacher or principal candidates from the Lower 48, a large number of current and former school district HR and school administrators subscribe.

1st time Teacher- BA plus 3 endorsements - pay?

Postby AnaFerreira » Sun Jun 15, 2014 4:55 am

I am in the process of interviewing for a school in the bush. In my state, I have a BA plus 3 endorsements.
I am a first time teacher.
The Alaskan school lists its pay scale as : BA , BA+18 , BA+36 / M ,BA+54/M+18 , BA+72/M+36 .

The school put me at a scale of B plus 18. I actually have a B plus 3 endorsements. Shouldn't this throw me at a higher pay scale?
At least a BA plus 36 ? maybe a BA plus 54 ?
What is the best way to tell them that I believe I should be on the higher end of the pay scale?

Any help will be appreciated !!

The endorsements make you more hireable, but it is how many credits you have after your bachelor's that sets your pay.

Good luck,
