The 2009-10 school year is about three quarters over in Alaska, and for most districts, the 2010-11 job search season has begun in earnest. There are around 227 openings posted at the moment, and more will added in the coming weeks as we approach the major ATP Job Fairs. Many districts have already begun hiring for August.
Candidates should be researching districts using the resources on this site, and if you have not already, begin to correspond with the personnel office or recruiting teams at districts of special interest to you. If the districts you are most interested in are not responding when you call or email, be persistent. Don’t get discouraged. Some districts are very, very busy at this time of year with budget and staffing requests, and may not be able to respond to each inquiry.
Make sure to follow up directly with districts on jobs you have expressed an interests in through the ATP Job Bank, as some districts prefer email, others prefer phone calls, and still others announce their jobs here, but have their own internal application processes. Make sure to carefully read the application instructions for each job posting.
The statistics bar at the top of this page uses live data. Checking the ATP Job Bank, and your email account regularly is very important if you are looking for a job right now.
Traffic to the ATP Job Bank steadily increased this past year, and easily surpassed the prior year peak traffic average. Just before the April Job Fair in Anchorage we were seeing between 1,800 - 2,300 daily visits, and serving out 18,500 or more web pages. Above is a chart that gives some idea of the March - April trend of unique daily visitors to the site this year.
Alaska-focused Job Fairs are usually held in March and April. The largest event ATP hosts is the the well-known flagship event at the Captain Cook in Anchorage, the Alaska Educator Expo. This year ATP will once again host a Lower 48 Job Fair in Minneapolis, Minnesota as well as one in Seattle, WA. You can read more about these on the ATP Job Fairs page.

The online registration form for all ATP-sponsored Job Fairs is now open and ready for you.
Please fill in your registration form carefully, as this is the screening data that districts will be viewing prior to the event.
In addition to our in-person events, ATP also hosts numerous Live Chats with special guests, as well as a few “Virtual Job Fairs” which allow candidates unable to make the trip to Alaska or Minnesota to still network with hiring officials and feel out job opportunities in more depth.
Many working relationships between educators and administrators have been forged during ATP Virtual Job Fairs and have even been known to lead to a job offer. ATP staff provide technical help online and via audio.
A new format allows us to provide live, online events in a much more interactive fashion than in the past, and will provide video segments, questions and answer sessions, and private messaging with specific district representatives.

If you are seriously considering Alaska, we strongly suggest you visit the ATP Forum to post questions, learn more about Alaska, and meet other educators.
The ATP Job Bank is your best bet for finding a teaching or school administration job in Alaska!
Use the eContact feature for current openings listed on the ATP Job Bank. Use the eContact link to send your resume and details and note expressing interest as soon as new openings are posted, and then follow up with phone and email contact.
Those with resumes in the system will be automatically notified of openings that match their areas of interest. Districts with openings in your stated categories of interest are notified when you register. However, it is such a busy time of year that you will want to also make sure to actually apply on-line for specific openings!
Note: If you have a Spam filter that does not allow our messages to go through, you will be less likely to receive the information you need in a timely fashion. If you use Earthlink mail, Yahoo mail, AOL or another ISP that has filtering automatically in place, you must have us “whitelisted” in order to get job notifications, and school district messages.
ATP iCommunity - The iCommunity area has numerous ways to interact with working Alaska educators, other job candidates, and both school district and government officials. This is the place to post general questions about teaching or living in Alaska. The extensive archives are fully searchable, and a tremendous resource for those considering relocating.
The form is somewhat misleading by name, as it is not accepted statewide.
ATP Statewide Application Form - This is a form that was used for many years by ATP before the current ATP Job Bank existed. It is NOT accepted by all districts, but is still mandatory for some.
Make sure to read the fine print of each vacancy announcement- some districts only ask that you have a link to specific application instructions on their own website. This is because some aspects of the job application process are controlled by local School Board policies, and administrative procedures that are in place at the district level.
Note: Unless you have Adobe’s Acrobat Pro, you will not be able to save the information you have entered in the Statewide Form. If you only have Acrobat Reader, the form will be reset once you close it- even if you try to save it.
There are some basic tips to remember when attending an ATP Job Fair. More details can be found on our Job Fairs page, but here are a few key reminders:
